CONTEST FACTS
Who: Students in grades 7 & 8 and years 1, 2, 3, & 4 in both state and private language schools are eligible to participate (excluding full emersion English schools).
Due Date: Students must give completed essays to participating teachers and youth leaders by the 2nd of November. Participating teachers and youth leaders must submit their students’ essays to the Regional Coordinators by the 4th of November 2009 (Late entries will not be accepted)
Winners:
● Regional and National winners will be announced by 5 Dec.
● Regional winners will receive a certificate and book prize
● National winners will attend a National Awards Ceremony on The 9th of December 2009 in Skopje 2009 National English Language Essay Contest “Un-Sung Heroes” ·
Students in grades 7 & 8 and 1, 2, 3, & 4 year may participate. ·
Regional winners will be awarded in three categories:
(1) 7 th – 8 th grade
(2) 1 st – 2 nd year
(3) 3 rd – 4 th year ·
Regional winners will be awarded a certificate and book prize.
· National winners will attend an Awards Ceremony in Skopje December 9th, be awarded a certificate, book prize, and a GRAND PRIZE!!
*National Winners will be provided reimbursement for roundtrip bus tickets for themselves and one adult (for example, a parent or a teacher).
RULES
1. Each essay must be the individual work of one student. If you are caught cheating or plagiarizing you will be disqualified.
2. All essays should be personal narratives, so no citing is necessary.
3. The essay must be written in English and submitted on time.
4. Each participant may only enter once during this contest.
5. The essay’s maximum length is 500 words. Essays over the limit by 10% or more will be disqualified. The minimum length is 350 words.
6. Essays should be clearly hand written or typed on A4 sized paper, double spaced and have 2cm margins. If typed, they need to be in 12 point font.
7. Do not write your name or other personal information on the essay.
8. Write your personal information on the Cover Page and attach it to the front of the essay
9. Each student should submit one Contest Cover Page and 2 copies of his or her essay to their teacher by the 2nd of November 2009.
We would like each student to think of a person they know who is a hero in their eyes. This can be a relative or someone in their town or community, whom they feel should be recognized. They should tell us what makes that person a hero (i.e. what they did/do) and how it’s affecting the writer of the Essay personally, and/or how it’s effecting the community where they live.
